Red Voodoo Tour '99...or somethin like that.

This was my first concert ever! I was turning 17 that september and the date was August 14th 1999. My favorite radio station, Z92, was throwing their 21st birthday bash, an all day concert extravaganza! The show consisted of Joe Walsh, Paul Rogers, Blue Oyster Cult and headlined by Sammy Hagar and the Waboritas! It's a day I'll always remember. My uncle, who was like a brother, bestfriend and dad to me before he passed away just 4 years later, decided that he was going to take me to see Sammy, since I have 5 top vocalist that I have consistantly followed since I was 5 and Sammy is one of them. I was excited! On the was over I was going through Hagar cd covers deciding which one I wanted signed-not a guarentee, but it's best to be prepared, and that's when we hit a GMC Jimmy in front of us that had slammed on it's brakes going around a sharp turn. After the confrontation we had with the driver who had tried to run and wouldnt present id or insurance, a cop had given us a ride home. I was pissed that we wouldn't see hagar and that's when my uncle suprised me by renting a car and we got back on the road in time to make it for the start of BOC who was the first band on! An amazing day was spent having a blast with my uncle and enjoying some of the greatest songs of rock n roll. As Sammy took the stage my uncle showed me how to get from our positions to the very front of the crowd. To this day his show is still one of my favorites and on that day I discovered Cabo Wabo which is now the ONLY teequila I allow in my house-with the exception of 1800 if I can't afford Cabo. My wife tels everyone that tries to bring Jose or any other crap to leave it outside. Even though we struggle to make ends meet at times, I still have a shelf of Cabo bottles and one tiny one we our saving for the birth of our first child. lol. I never did get my autograph, and don't know if I ever will, the last few times Sammy has been to Omaha, NE money has been real tight-I was HIGHLY upset when he came with Aerosmith, another favorite band of mine, and tickets started at a little over 100 bucks, talk about not caring for the poor fans! Anyways, I hope to see Sammy again and this time be able to introduce my wife to a REAL rock show-unlike the crap she has been too, and even though it's a long shot, I hope to someday pen a song or two with him-my hobby is writing and this Year's resolution is to actually get paid lol. Anyways, that's my memory I thought I'd share, it's wierd how a concert can be that memorable and still affect someone over 10 years later. Thank you Sammy!
