A Redhead since the eighties!

August 22, 2011 by Billyfreakingblaze

The first time I heard Bad Motor Scooter by Montrose, I was hooked! Being a product of the eighties through high school, I wore the lettering off of my Standing Hampton cassette. My first concert was the Three Lock Box tour(another cassette with the print wore off ;)) I even went through a couple copies of HSAS! The nickname "Sammy" stuck with me for a couple of those formative high school years.

Much to my dismay, I have not seen Mr. Hagar since the 5150 tour with VH...so I am extremely stoked about the Sept. 17th concert I will be attending in Columbus!!

A trip to Cabo in October is still on my bucket list..so Sammy..don't even think of retiring for at least a few more years..lol!

Rock on!!

I went MIA on ya there.. Lol. The Columbus show was nothing short of amazing! Sammy never misses a beat.. The man is timeless! After reading his autobiography last year it only solidified my place in redheadom that much more! I also have VOA on vinyl as well as a few others! Rock on \^^/ BK

Thanks for sharing your story. I can relate, as a fellow Redhead from the eighties, I wore out a copy of VOA on cassette. I then bought it on vinyl and cd. I now store all of Sammy's songs on my ipod, keeping the hard copies safely put away.
5150 was a great album and tour, but I have to say you've missed some good ones since. One of my favorite Sammy concert moments is from the Marching to Mars tour. He played Returning Home right after opening with Marching to Mars, and the fur on my arm stood up. It was completely fitting for that moment in time, with just coming back to his solo career.
Sammy still brings it, not matter what season of life he's in. I also think Vic needs an honorable mention. He's great on all of Sammy era songs. VH, Montrose, Chickenfoot, Vic nails it all. As a matter of fact I think he played the VH tunes better than Eddie did during the reunion tour in '04.
Anyway, enough of my rant, let us know how the Columbus show goes. I'm interested in hearing about your experience.
Cheers,
Matt
