LOS ANGELES - September 18, 2012 - Sammy Hagar showed the City of Roseville that there was only one way to rock on Saturday, September 15 as more than a 1,000 Redheads crowded the streets to celebrate Sammy Hagar Day alongside the Red Rocker. Roseville's Mayor Pauline Roccucci presented Hagar with the Key to the City - in the shape of an electric guitar - in recognition of Hagar's outstanding contributions to music and to the city's Downtown Roseville Revitalization efforts through the opening of his first Sammy's Rockin' Island Bar & Grill. Following the presentation, Hagar and the Wabos rocked out before a sold-out crowd on the indoor stage, performing hits including "I Can't Drive 55," "One Way to Rock," "Why Can't This Be Love," and "Finish What Ya Started" as hundreds more partied along to the concert, broadcast onto a massive outdoor screen.
Remarking on the draw of bringing his first Sammy's Rockin' Island Bar & Grill to downtown Roseville, Hagar said, "This is the old part of the city. It's got history. It's got soul. When the city's done with its revitalization plans, they intend for this area to be the town's living room. Well, then I got the ISLAND! This is for all the Redheads - we actually got our own island to come party on!"
Before even opening its doors, Hagar's restaurant had already helped raise more than $40,000 for local South Placer Co. charities, including Woodshop Rocks, the local school program which made the electric guitar presented to Hagar as his Key to the City, by auctioning off tickets to Hagar's concert and events.
