Birthday Bash
October 06, 2003
If you were lucky enough to be in Cabo this past weekend, you already know
what a smoking "you shoulda been there" kind of two days it was...and if you
were there - we want your photos. We're especially looking for ones with
Sammy, Jerry, Chad and Tommy together on stage. (We've got plenty of Sammy and the Wabos). When you send them through, be sure to include your full name and phone number because if they're good, we're going to service them to the press and give you the photo credit. If you DON'T want your photos
submitted to the press, PLEASE STATE THAT IN YOUR EMAIL.
This year's bash included drummer and birthday boy Tommy (Mötley Crüe ) Lee who celebrated his birthday on stage with Sammy Friday (October 3) night.
Tommy received a huge chocolate cake baked by the mom of Cabo Wabo Cantina Executive Chef Dustin Meeker.
The cake got passed through the crowd and returned to the stage with amazingly enough (!) one piece left for Tommy.
But that's not all - former Alice in Chains guitarist/vocalist Jerry
Cantrell and his new band played vicious sets both night and Red Hot Chili
Peppers drummer Chad Smith sat in on drums on Saturday night. Among the
blazing highlights was an impromptu medley of The Beatles "Come Together"
and RHCP "Give It Away" with Chad on drums, Waborita bassist Mona, Waborita guitarist Vic Johnson, Waborita Jesse Harms on keyboards, Waborita David Lauser on percussion and Tommy on percussion. Also scorchers included Tommy sitting in for the Montrose hit "Rock Candy," Sammy singing lead on the Alice in Chains hits "Man in the Box" and "No Excuses" and everyone on stage for some of Sammy's greatest hits including "Shaka Doobie," "Finish What Ya Started" and "Best of Both Worlds."
The celebration continues throughout the week with new guests scheduled to
hit the stage, leading up to Sammy's annual Birthday Bash that amazingly,
falls on his actual birthday each year (October 13).
Stated Sammy, "This was one of absolute highlights in my career. I am a very
lucky person and man, it just doesn't get any better than this."
The bash continues all week long....
