Sunday night. Wow, were we Fn' wrecked by then or what! I know I was tired. Four nights of getting your ass kicked will do that to the best of us. I woke right up though as soon as the show started.
We sat straight back for this show on one of the risers. The sound was amazing. It is also cool to be able to take it all in. When you are real close it's hard to do that. Plus I like the different perspectives you get from sitting in different spots. That is just another great thing about a venue like Tahoe.
They opened with I Can't Drive 55. That was a first for me and a nice surprise. Sammy said he had a hard time coming up with different songs to play each night. He mixed it up pretty well I thought and kept some songs in every night like Shaka Doobie and Serious Ju Ju that to me had to be there because they sound so good live. Especially Ju Ju. That is so heavy!
Among the highlights of the first set were the above mentioned and Things Have Changed, Heavy Metal, and Eagles Fly.
I never get sick of Eagles. This was the only night he played it and he did it a little different. He sung it and played it like he was doing it off the cuff. Whatever happened to come into his head at the time he went with it. I definitely noticed he played it different. I was wondering if it had anything to do with his cut pinky because he uses his pinky alot on that tune. Especially during the bridge of the song and he did not use it at all during that part.
The second set opened with Love or Money, like Friday night. I can't get enough of that one or Planet's on Fire. He used to open with those two back in the 80's and they connect him back to the early days before Standing Hampton. Thanks for remembering those tunes Sam!
More highlights included an impromptu version of the Who's Won't Get Fooled Again. The crowd really seemed to love that. I hope that was a statement to VH.
Bad Motor Scooter featured some of the best guitar playing Sammy pulled off all weekend. He just jammed the shit out of that one. We all know what a great singer/performer he is but he deserves more credit as a guitar player.
The VH tunes kicked ass again of course. Nothing like seeing Sammy and Mike playing those together. Amsterdam, Up For Breakfast, and another awesome version of Right Now.
At one point during that the crowd erupted into a Vic Fn' Rocks chant. Vic seemed to be humbled by that. He is not only a great guitar player but one of the nicest guys I have ever met in any walk of life.
At the end of the show Sam took off the shades and expressed to the crowd how much he appreciates us. I can't remember exactly what he said but when you can look in his eyes you can see how sincere he is about that. He said he can keep playing these kind of shows forever without any record labels or radio support. We don't need them!
Closed the weekend with Let Me Take You There. This one really grew on me. It really has their stamp all over it. The Wabo's did a great job with this. It really seems hit worthy to me. Can you imagine if the song broke big! Let's hope it does.
Thanks to Sammy and the Wabo's, Michael Anthony, Neal Schon and Soul SirkUS, and the crews who worked so hard all week to make this happen. We had a blast!
